How to measure your dog
📏 How to Measure Your Greyhound Correctly
For the clothing to fit perfectly, the dog must be in a standing position when being measured. If the dog is sitting or lying down, the back length and chest circumference will be distorted.

1. Back Length (A)
Measure the distance from the base of the neck to the start of the tail.
- Where to start: At the neck (between the shoulder blades), approximately where the neck joins the back.
- Where to end: Exactly where the tail begins.
- Important: Greyhounds often arch their backs. Try to ensure the dog is standing straight and relaxed. Do not follow the curve of the back too tightly with the tape measure; instead, keep the tape lightly aligned.
2. Chest Circumference (B)
Measure the widest part of the chest.
- This is usually found right behind the front legs.
- Pull the tape measure firmly around the chest, but do not overtighten. There should be room for one finger underneath.
3. Neck Circumference (C)
Measure the widest part of the neck.
- This is usually closer to the shoulders, where a jacket collar would rest.
💡 NAKU's tips for success:
- Repeat the measurement: Measure your dog three times. Greyhounds move and tense their muscles – the average is often the truth.
- Between two sizes?
- If your dog is robust or muscular, choose the larger size.
- If your dog is very slender or young, choose the smaller size.
- Arched back: If your dog has an exceptionally strong arch in their back (common in Whippets), the back length measurement might require a little extra for non-stretch fabrics.
